Florian Boesch & Malcolm Martineau

Tue 23.8. 19:00

Florian Boesch, who astonished audiences last year as Wozzeck, returns to the Helsinki Festival. The Austrian bass-baritone is one of the leading Lied artists of our time, a visionary aware of tradition while also breaking the boundaries and conventions of classical singing.

The songs selected by Boesch cover the entire life cycle from birth to death, and they include works by the cornerstones of Lied: Schubert, Schumann, Strauss and Brahms. At this cinematic concert, each song is also an emotional mindscape. The compositions are interspersed with clips from old Finnish movies, ranging from the classics to rarely-seen sci-fi and B movies.

Playing the piano at the recital is Scotsman Malcolm Martineau, a trusted accompanist for world stars. Boesch and Martineau have previously worked together on, for example, the praised recording of Schubert’s Winterreise.
